I’m Offended

The US comedian and actor, Bill Murray says, ‘I don’t have to take this abuse from you. I’ve got hundreds of people waiting to abuse me’. Losers have developed a soft skin for abuse, insults or offences while winners have developed a thick skin. I mean who doesn’t get offended anyway. One way or the other, through mixing with other people of different race, ethnic group, tribe, orientation, sex, belief and the likes, we tend to get offended and they also get offended too because no one has the monopoly to get angry. The only way we can live with each other peacefully is to tolerate one another. 

Anyone who picks offence at every argument, disagreement, correction or rancor is still immature. Things like that happen every day and will continue to happen; you getting offended doesn’t change that fact. If you want to be a winner, you must learn to ignore a lot of things, most especially those things that really do not affect you that much or directly concern you. Always learn to let go, it is not a sign of weakness, it is actually a sign of maturity.

Jesse Jackson, when he was supposed to be selected as Dukaki’s running mate for the 1988 presidential election but wasn’t selected, instead of arguing or fighting, he rather said, ‘I am too controlled, I am too clear, I am too matured to be angry’. When you get angry or offended whenever you are corrected, you can’t go far in life.

It might not work

All things don’t work but we don’t know those that will and those that won’t till we try. You have just got to try first. Only a loser sees failure before trying. If those that are doing well and fine now thought it might not work, they wouldn’t be where they are now. Whether it will work or not doesn’t depend on you when you have not tried. Every successful business man was one time skeptical about the business before they finally gave it a try and it worked. 

Imagine if they had continued to conceive and nurse the idea of it not working, this might even make it not to work because the negative energy is greater than the positive energy. The best thing to do is to convince yourself that it would work, just trick your heart with ‘all is well’ and you would actually be surprised it worked. However, you first have to try.

They got Lucky

Luck? Did you just say Luck!!! Anne Tyler says, ‘People always call it luck when you have acted more sensibly than they have’. Or should it be a loser calls it luck when he sees a successful person because the successful person acted more sensibly than him. Whether there is luck or not, that is a topic for another day, however, this luck doesn’t happen to people that do nothing, I mean losers. Probably Jack Ma got lucky because he rose and started something. If you want to get lucky, why don’t you also start something. 

The South African golfer, Gary Player says, ‘The harder you work, the luckier you get’. This means, no form of luck comes when you sit and stay idle. You’ve got to do something before you can get lucky. Now the question is what have you done that luck will add to. According to Armand Hammer, ‘When I work 14 hours a day and seven days a week, I get lucky’. If at all luck would bless anything, it is not you but the work of your hands.

I’m too Tired

Louis Pasteur, the popular French scientist says, ‘Chance favors only the prepared mind’. A tired person most times implies a defeated person or hopeless person. You can’t have a very big ambition, dreams, goals, aspirations and you get tired. It’s just not possible!!! Your dream, your passion keeps burning in you and won’t just let go till you achieve them; how do you then get tired.

According to Richard Jenrette, ‘Tired people make bad decisions’. Now that is enough reason not to get tired. Physically, your body may fail you, but mentally and psychologically, you should be very strong to meet up your targets, answer your calls, fulfilling the number of chapters per day, read up exactly the number of books you want to in a month; that is just the best way to leave the loser’s zone.

If you want to achieve, you must never get tired.

It’s not Fair

According to Viru in the film 3 Idiots, ‘All is fair in love and war’. The system wasn’t designed to be fair in anyway, you just have to pick your own from the choices on ground. If it were to be fair, everyone would find it easy and would have picked the best choices before you come. Nothing is gonna be done to satisfy you. 

It’s only a loser that finds consolation in what others do. If you don’t have peace within you, nobody gonna give you. According to George Orwell, ‘Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence; in other words it is war minus the shooting’.

It’s easy for You

Now we come to the last opinion of a loser; everything is easy for everybody except a loser (no wonder he loses). Oliver Wendell Homles says, ‘Every calling is great when greatly pursued’. Nothing is easy for anyone; everything is hard based on perspective. When you think it is hard, even if it was not supposed to be hard, it would be hard. But when you think it is simple, that would guide you to take your first step, you get to the bridge and you can start thinking of how to cross it only when you took the first step.

Thinking it is hard only leaves you to continue staring at the bridge, you would never cross it. Everybody tried for somewhere, the great men also laid a foundation they stand on today, and you too should lay a foundation no matter what it would cost you.

I end this with words of the Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova, ‘As is the case in all branches of art, success depends in a very large measure upon individual initiative and exertion, and cannot be achieved except by dint of hard work.’
